Objetivos de Desenvoltimento Sustentável (ODS)

To explore a space dedicated to knowledge, research and study through the available resources, such as books, scientific journals and digital materials.

On 16 October, the class of the CTeSP in Child and Youth Support carried out a study visit to the Victor de Sá Library at Lusófona University. The visit enabled us to become familiar with an academic space dedicated to promoting knowledge, reading and research. It also helped us to better understand how a university library operates and how it can support students throughout their academic and professional development.

During the study visit, we had the opportunity to explore a space dedicated to knowledge, research and study, through the available resources such as books, scientific journals and digital materials. We were welcomed with an explanation about how the library functions and the rules for using the space.

According to UNESCO, libraries are important because they guarantee the universal right to access information, education and culture. They are free spaces that promote equal opportunities, regardless of social or economic background.

Libraries preserve humanity’s collective memory by gathering documents of various types that record accumulated knowledge over the centuries. They function as cultural and social centres, hosting educational activities, exhibitions, debates and workshops, reinforcing community spirit and social inclusion.

Research using physical books remains an essential part of the academic process, as it enriches knowledge and lends greater credibility to academic work. Thus, libraries continue to be fundamental pillars of academic success, contributing to the development of rigorous and well-structured assignments.

Finally, the visit allowed a deeper understanding of the fundamental role that a University Library plays in students’ education. It also highlighted their importance as essential spaces for access to information, support for teaching, learning and research, as well as for the development of key skills. This visit further helped motivate students to pursue higher education by fostering an interest in university life.
