    Curricular unit that allows the first contact with veterinary anesthesia in the role of the veterinary nurse, as well as its importance in the operating room, in the clinic for companion animals and exotic animals.

    This curricular unit is mainly focused on the acquisition of knowledge in anesthesiology, in different animal species, which include: - Anesthesia consultation; - Premedication and anesthetic risk; - Anesthetic monitoring; - Pain assessment; - Specific anesthetic care; - Anesthetic complications. - Preoperative and postoperative evaluation and monitoring; - Approaches to different types of bandages applied in surgery; - Antiseptic, asepsis, sterilization and desinfection concept.
  • ObjectivosObjectives
    . What is anesthesiology and what is it function within the medical and surgical area. 2. Know the classic anesthetic components. 3. Pre-anesthetic evaluation of patients and stabilization, by choosing appropriate protocols to different procedures and patients in different species and purchase skills in the animal preparation for surgery, premedication, induction and maintenance of anesthesia. 4. Know the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic characteristics of anesthetic drugs. 5. Have knowledge about the functioning of anesthesia and monitoring devices. 6. Understanding the different types of anesthesia for specific surgeries. 8. Knowledge the pathophysiology of pain, their evaluation and treatment. 9. Preoperative and postoperative management 10. To observe the realization of dressings applied to veterinary surgery. 11. Knowledge of the fundamental concepts of antiseptic, asepsis, sterilization and desinfection.

  • MetodologiaMethodology
    Student engagement through the analysis and discussion of concepts. Practice: tutorial practical classes, compulsory, to complement the taught topics. Watching films in the context of the activities and execution of clinical and surgical procedures according to the syllabus, tracking surgical clinical cases. The evaluation shall take the following forms: a - Continuous Assessment: written tests assessment, protocols, punctuality, attendance and behavior. b - Assessment Final Exam If the student does not get approval for continuous assessment may be assessed in the final exam. The final classification of the course corresponds to the weighted average of the practical assessment (50%) with the theoretical evaluation (50%).Minimum of 9,5 is required for approval.
