  • ApresentaçãoPresentation
The course unit of Cellular  Biology introduces the knowledge concerning the structure and functioning of the cell. Fundamental knowledge concerning the storage, transmission and use of genetic information in eukaryotic and prokaryotic organisms is transmitted. The cell cycle and the control of gene expression are studied, as well as related themes such as cancer and apoptosis. The student should grasp the importance of molecular biology not only as a source of biotechnology processes, but also as a rapidly expanding toolkit with applications in multiple areas of health. In laboratory practice, the most commonly used techniques in biology will be performed.

  • ObjectivosObjectives
    1. Have fundamental knowledge regarding the storage, transmission and use of genetic information in eukaryotic and prokaryotic organisms. 2. Have general and specific notions of the structure and function of the different cellular components. 3. Know how to identify organelles and cellular structures in optical microscopy. 4. Have the ability to use the knowledge of Cell Biology in the critical analysis of information and practice in other disciplines. 5. Understand the molecular mechanisms of genetics and vital processes in general. 6. To have basic laboratory skills in a Biology laboratory.

  • MetodologiaMethodology
In practical classes, the student has prior access to the experimental protocols to be carried out in each class session, which allows for prior reading and preparation. These protocols are accompanied by a set of questions, in order to ensure individual preparation and, subsequently, the discussion of procedures and results.
