    The UC allows the student to acquire knowledge in the field of laboratory safety and separation of hospital waste, in hematology, biochemistry, citology, urianalyse and clinical microbiology. After the UC, the students will be more autonomous regarding the choice, pratice and interpretation of the various analyses, using clinical cases.
  • ProgramaProgramme
    Clinical microbiology: aseptic sampling, transport, bacterial culture and interpretation of susceptibility tests to antimicrobials and biocides for veterinary diagnosis. Urinalysis. Type II urine analysis - physical and chemical examination of urine; microscopic examination of urinary sediment. Mycology in Veterinary Medicine: conventional methods of mycological diagnosis for the macro and microscopic identification of dermatophytosis agents, systemic and subcutaneous mycosis agents, and allergenic fungi. The importance of the pre-analytical phase in laboratory diagnosis. Analytical methodologies and their importance in the clinic and reference values. Intoxications in Veterinary Medicine. Clinical hematology applied to laboratory diagnosis. Biopsy techniques, cytological preparations and body fluids visualization. Biochemical profiles: Liver, renal, pancreatic, gatrointestinal, endocrine and lipid. Electrolyte and acid-base balance: Ionogram and blood gas analysis.
  • ObjectivosObjectives
    Ensure that the student recognizes the Laboratory as a workplace where safety is fundamental in the handling and maintenance of material, reagents and equipment. Learning how to collect samples, how to handle and how to store and send samples to the Laboratory. Acquisition of fundamental knowledge and skills of laboratory diagnosis and interpretation of results.

    Active learning/problem-based learning activities, quizzes, clinical cases, and exercises are implemented in order to stimulate students' enthusiasm for the subject and their involvement in classes. Formative assessments are used to support teaching and learning in the classroom. The feedback facilitated by formative assessments enables teachers to adapt their instruction to the needs of students, taking into account their individual characteristics, difficulties, and gaps, and provide feedback to students; students can use such feedback to self-regulate their study and steer their own learning processes directly. Some of the digital tools used are mentimeter, socrative, kahoot, and gitmind.
