Experimental Graphic Techniques and Self-Publishing II

  This curricular unit aims to foster the exploratory development of analogue printing techniques (engraving, printmaking, screen printing, and other non-toxic techniques) for the development of visual languages to be applied in artistic projects, particularly Artist's Books and other author-led editorial projects.
• ProgramaProgramme

  Monotypes - Creative exploration of manual graphic printing techniques, stamping, relief techniques, linocut and intaglio, sgraffito, analog image transfer processes; stencil, screen printing. Hybrid and versatile processes: - Exploration of procedural, technological, and analog means and methods: relationship between image reproduction media (photography, photocopy, etc.). Artist Books: - Artistic production linked to reproducibility (self-publishing and/or publication); - Relationships between form and content, idea and expression, and plastic language. Graphic production in self-publishing: - The book as an experimental object; Unique exemplar or edition? - Manual bookbinding and non-standard formats. Creative tools for producing an Artist's Book for small manual editions and facsimiles: - Facsimile: photographic survey, digital pagination (InDesign or similar), and file editing for printing; - Manual edition: mock-up, printing, binding, and finishing.
• ObjectivosObjectives

  - To develop an authorial language in graphic work through the exploration of analog printing processes; - To open up the possibility of crossing over with other reproduction methods (photocopy, photography, etc.) to create multiple hybrids; - To encourage reflection on the applicability of the technique and question the process, tools, supports, and printing matrix; - To distinguish multiples and aura, origin and copy, unique exemplar and edition, author; - To stimulate the creative process wit h the development of an Authorial Project in the context of the Artist's Book.

• MetodologiaMethodology

  The teaching methodology is based on a workshop environment, combining theory, artistic experimentation, research, and creativity. Each phase combines theoretical approach, exploration of techniques, and supervised development of the Artist's Book Project. The creation of monotypes and experimentation with hybrid media develop students' authorial visual language. The project is a handmade prototype, a full-scale or miniature mock-up, and a printed facsimile edition, allowing students to reflect on the unique and the multiple, the original and the copy, aura, and authorship. Group discussions, self-assessment, and peer assessment promote autonomy, critical thinking, and the reformulation of projects. Issues related to the book object, such as format, paper, pagination, cover, and binding, are also addressed. Assessment considers technical quality and the ability to develop an authorial graphic project. Moodle provides materials and supports communication.
