History of Comics in the National Context - The Heroic Period (1850 - 1910); - When Comics Were Art (1910 - 1940); - The Golden Age (1940 - 1960); - The Turbulent Period (1960 - 1985); - The Crisis Years (1985 - 2000); - The Renaissance Period (2000 - ).
  • ObjectivosObjectives
    General objectives: Study the history of both national and international comics, their context within the arts, with a focus on periods and case studies relevant to a broad understanding of the interdisciplinary/multidisciplinary medium of sequential art in comics. Specific objectives: - Recognize the importance of proto-comics and other sequential visual narratives that contributed to the genesis of the comic medium as it is currently defined; - Master the grammatical terminology used by professionals in the field in areas such as artistic techniques, page composition, panel composition and transitions, and lettering/captioning; - Understand the history of comics and proto-comics in both national and international contexts, with special emphasis on key authors/artists and narratives that were essential to the evolution of the medium and its impact on readers.

    The teaching/learning process begins with an interactive oral presentation of the course content, allowing students to gain a deeper understanding of the material and its relevance to skill development and professionalization. The theoretical-practical approach, based on the sharing of case studies and the completion of two visual essays, enables students to develop technical and critical analysis skills.
