ApresentaçãoPresentationCurricular unit that allows students to come into contact with the evolution and intensification of animal functional rehabilitation, focusing on intensive functional neuro-rehabilitation and regeneration of the nervous and musculoskeletal system.

ProgramaProgrammeApproach to landmarks and the musculoskeletal system: Thoracic and pelvic limbs landmarks. Head and trunk landmarks. Postural, thoracic limb, pelvic limb, paraspinal and abdominal muscles. Muscle fibers I and II, muscle contraction, motor plate and muscular atrophy. Pain-spasm-pain cycle. Spasticity and rigidity. Physical Medicine and Animal Rehabilitation: Animal rehabilitation examination and rehabilitation measures (ROM and muscle mass). Passive kinesiotherapy (PROM). Animal Rehabilitation Modalities: Thermotherapy, electrical muscle stimulation, ultrasound, magnet therapy, laser therapy, shock wave therapy and diathermy. How to handle and maintain the devices. Electrical stimulation protocols for neuromodulation. Massage and stretching: Massage types, trigger and stress points. Stretches. Hydrotherapy and locomotor training: Applications. Intensive rehabilitation protocols; Neurorehabilitation for acute, sub-acute and chronic patients

ObjectivosObjectivesKnowing the approach to landmarks and the musculoskeletal system. 2- Assist the veterinary surgeon during the rehabilitation examination. Knowing rehabilitation measures. Knowing how to run the animal rehabilitation exercises under the supervision of the veterinary surgeon. Knowning the animal rehabilitation modalities Knowing how to handle animal rehabilitation equipment. Knowing how to perform massage and stretching exercises, under the supervision of the veterinary surgeon.

The evaluation: a - Continuous Assessment: Despite the strong practical component of this course, the assessment will not neglect the ability to apply theoretical knowledge. Specifically students will be assessed in relation to communication skills, teamwork, application of knowledge and proactivity. It will be even contemplated the development of a clinical protocol. b - Final Exam If the student does not get approval for continuous assessment may be assessed in the final exam.
