Outgoing student mobility

The ERASMUS+ Programme is the largest educational mobility programme in the world, promoted by the European Union and managed in Portugal by the ERASMUS+ National Agency. Its main objectives are:

• Improved learning performance;
• Greater employability and better career prospects;
• Greater sense of initiative and entrepreneurship; greater self-empowerment and self-esteem;
• Better foreign language and digital skills;
• Greater awareness of interculturality; more active participation in society;
• Greater awareness of the European project and EU values;
• Greater motivation to participate in future education or training (formal/non-formal) after the period of mobility abroad.

Who can take part and apply?

Higher education students, regularly enrolled in a course leading to a degree, in any Cycle of Studies (Bachelor's and Master's), can participate in mobility for studies.

Types and duration of Erasmus+ Mobility

Erasmus+ mobility can be long or short term. Long-term mobilities can last a minimum of 2 months and a maximum of 12 months. Short-term mobilities last less than 2 months. Short-term mobility can be made up of Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs). BIPs are mobility programmes that include a face-to-face component and a distance component.

Language aptitude certificates

Before applying, you must take the free language aptitude test available on the OLS - Online Language Support platform. Taking this exam is a prerequisite for students on ERASMUS+ mobility for a period of 14 days or more. It must be taken in the language that will be used during the mobility and the result must be the one required by the respective host institution. Submission of the OLS exam result in pdf format is mandatory for the SMS application to be valid.

How can you apply?

Before applying, please contact the IPLUSO mobility coordinator or send an email to mobilidade@ipluso.pt.

This coordinator will advise you and answer any questions you may have about the mobility process, in particular about the partner HEIs and countries available for your course. The best way to start planning your mobility is to consult the countries and universities where you can go. The full list of existing agreements for your course can be found in the option below.

Where to apply?

Applying for the Erasmus+ Mobility Programme consists of different stages. In the list below you can find a summary of the main steps you need to follow during your application.

1. Meet with the Institute's Mobility Coordinator. The mobility process involves choosing a course and a host institution/country. In addition to this choice, mobility requires defining a Learning Agreement. This agreement will define the curricular units you will take at the host institution, which will then be recognised for your course.
2. If you have any questions, please contact the International Relations Office in person or, alternatively, use the email address mobilidade@ipluso.pt.
3. A grant/scholarship may be awarded for study mobility. The monthly amounts are tabulated by the Erasmus+ National Agency and are calculated according to the standard of living in each country.
4. The application is made online. It will be validated by the International Relations Office, which will decide whether to accept the application at this first stage.
5. If your application is accepted, the next step will be to define the Learning Agreement. This process must be monitored and agreed between you, your departmental coordinator and then the host institution.
6. The documents to be submitted with your application are: Photograph, Letter of Motivation (in English), Curriculum Vitae (in English) and OLS Language Test.
7. All communications about the application process are made by email.

Learning Agreement

The Learning Agreement is the programme of studies that you will undertake during your period of mobility. It defines the curricular units and ECTS credits that you will take at the host institution and that will subsequently be recognised through equivalence to curricular units in the study programme at IPLUSO - Instituto Politécnico da Lusofonia. Whenever possible, you should find the ECTS correspondence between the curricular units you will complete during mobility and those you want recognised in your home course.

How many ECTS do I have to complete during mobility?

Under the Erasmus+ Mobility programme for long-term studies (SMS), students must complete 30 ECTS or 60 ECTS, in the case of semester or annual mobility, respectively. For short-term programmes (BIPs) the minimum number of ECTS is 3.

The Overseas Programme is a programme run by IPLUSO - Instituto Politécnico da Lusofonia, which allows its students to spend a period of mobility at a HEI (Higher Education Institution) in any destination outside the European Area. The Programme is based on Bilateral Cooperation and is agreed and defined in a Cooperation Protocol.

Who can apply?

All students who are regularly enrolled on a higher education course leading to a degree, whose financial situation is regularised and who meet the requirements established by each Faculty, School or Course Directorate can apply.

All students will have their applications analysed individually.

The ISEP Programme is a Mobility Programme for the USA, which opens the doors to students from IPLUSO - Instituto Politécnico da Lusofonia for a semester or an academic year at an American University.

It is an extraordinary opportunity to get to know a system that is substantially different from the European one, to create work networks, share knowledge and acquire important multicultural skills.

Who can apply?

All students at IPLUSO - Instituto Politécnico da Lusofonia who are regularly enrolled on a course leading to a degree - 1st, 2nd or 3rd Cycle - can take part in the ISEP Programme.

How can you apply?

The ISEP Programme comprises two applications:

• External: those interested should first apply to the Programme at: ISEP
• Internal: you should send an e-mail to: mobilidade@ipluso.pt or go to the International Relations Office

When can you apply?

Applications to the ISEP Programme have specific periods.

For internships (curricular, extracurricular and professional), applications are open permanently and all students from the 1st year of each cycle of studies up to one year after completion of the cycle of studies can take part.
The selection periods for participants in the USA take place in August and February.

Applications for the Study Mobility Programme take place in various stages throughout the year and are available here.

Where can you apply?

Although the Programme allows mobility to various parts of the world, IPLUSO - Instituto Politécnico da Lusofonia students can only apply for mobility in the USA.

All students regularly enrolled in a degree course - 1st, 2nd and 3rd Cycle - can take part in the AULP Mobility Programme.

How can you apply?

The AULP Mobility Programme comprises two applications:

• External: those interested should first apply to the Programme at: AULP
• Internal: you should send an e-mail to: mobilidade@ipluso.pt or go to the International Relations Office.

When can you apply?

Applications to the AULP Programme have specific deadlines. For internal applications, the deadlines set each year must be respected. External applications are announced annually, usually between May and June of each year, and publicised through the regular media of IPLUSO - Instituto Politécnico da Lusofonia. Applications for the AULP Mobility Programme are available to students:

• 1st Cycle of Studies - after the end of the 1st year;
• 2nd and 3rd Cycle of Studies - at any time.

The selection periods for participants in the AULP Mobility Programme are in June/July, with studies starting between August and September.

What is a Free Mover?

A Free Mover is a student who undertakes a period of mobility for studies, with recognition, outside the Mobility Programmes in operation at IPLUSO.
All the processes are the responsibility of the student:

• Choosing the destination institution and organising the mobility process with the desk;
• Discussing the study programme with the International Relations Office.

Benefits

• Free Mover students enjoy the same benefits that the Lusófona Teaching Institutions grant to other mobility students;
• Free Movers have complete freedom in choosing their destination institution;
• Free mover students maintain the payment of tuition fees at the educational institution they are attending and are subject to the payment of tuition fees at the destination educational institution, information which should be consulted on the institution's website.
