An IPLUSO student took part in a health promotion initiative in Montijo that highlighted the importance of physical exercise in the management of Type 2 Diabetes
The Afonsoeiro Family Health Unit in Montijo held a community outreach activity on 8 May entitled “Exercise and Type 2 Diabetes”, reinforcing the importance of promoting healthy lifestyles and health literacy among the local population.
The initiative took place at the health unit's facilities and involved the collaboration of a student from ERISA – Escola Superior de Saúde Ribeiro Sanches of IPLUSO – Instituto Politécnico da Lusofonia, who actively contributed to the delivery of the session and to raising awareness among participants about the benefits of regular physical exercise in the management of Type 2 Diabetes.
During the activity, in addition to physical exercise sessions, topics such as the importance of physical activity in blood glucose regulation, strategies for the adoption of healthy habits, and practical recommendations tailored to different age groups and clinical conditions were discussed.
Participants also had the opportunity to ask questions and share their experiences of managing the condition.
The collaboration between the Afonsoeiro Family Health Unit and IPLUSO highlights the importance of partnerships between healthcare and educational institutions in the practical training of students and the promotion of public health.
Further initiatives of this kind are planned, with the participation of IPLUSO students.
