Objetivos de Desenvoltimento Sustentável (ODS)

Studying the impact of human activity on Earth, exploring its ecological, social, and ethical dimensions

On 29 October, two open lectures were held at the Lusofonia School of Education of IPLUSO (ESEL – IPLUSO) with the aim of discussing society’s role in both the conservation and degradation of ecosystems. This is a pressing topic, as the relationship between humanity and Earth’s ecosystems has long been marked by profound interdependence, but also by increasing pressure on natural systems. These open sessions sought to foster broad reflection on the impact of human activity on the planet, exploring its ecological, social, and ethical dimensions.

The open lectures were attended by students from the Master’s Degree in Pre-School Education and Primary Education, the Master’s Degree in Primary Education and in Mathematics and Natural Sciences Education, the Bachelor’s Degree in Basic Education, and the Higher Professional Technical Course in Child and Youth Support, as well as the programme directors and other participants interested in the topic, as the sessions were open to the public.

The open lectures were organised and moderated by Professor Luísa Carvalho, Adjunct Professor at IPLUSO – ESEL, and featured two guest speakers: Professor Helena Freitas, Full Professor of Biodiversity and Ecology at the University of Coimbra, and Professor Maria Amélia Martins-Loução, Emeritus Full Professor of Sciences at the University of Lisbon and current President of the Portuguese Society of Ecology (SPECO).
