IPLUSO welcomed secondary school students as part of the Ciência Viva Programme, offering hands-on activities in the field of health sciences.
Ribeiro Sanches School of Health Sciences (ERISA), part of IPLUSO, welcomed secondary school students from 22 to 26 June as part of the Ciência Viva Programme, providing them with a practical introduction to higher education and health sciences research.
The initiative brought together Year 10 students from Professor Santana Castilho Secondary School in Miraflores and Virgílio Ferreira Secondary School in Carnide.
During the activity "How to Eliminate Microorganisms from Household Surfaces", led by lecturers Isabel Ribeiro and Mónica Teixeira, participants explored key concepts in microbiology and public health through laboratory-based activities.
Throughout the session, students gained a deeper understanding of the presence of microorganisms in household environments, distinguished between cleaning and disinfection, assessed the effectiveness of different hygiene methods, and developed experimental skills, critical thinking, and informed practices that contribute to the promotion of public health.
ERISA's participation in the Ciência Viva Programme reinforces the institution's commitment to promoting scientific literacy and bringing young people closer to higher education and the health sciences.
