June 15, 2026
Walking Football brought together grandparents, grandchildren and the community in an intergenerational event that promoted inclusion, physical activity and social interaction through sport
Walking Football was the theme of an intergenerational event for "Grandparents and Grandchildren". This initiative, a DAC - Curricular Autonomy Domains, organised by the Agrupamento Escolas Águeda Sul in partnership with the association "Mais Feliz", led by its president, Professor Fernando Batista, took place in the sports hall of Escola Professor Artur Nunes Vidal, in Fermentelos, on 8 May. Sponsored by Professor Paulo Sargento, a lecturer at Lusófona University and IPLUSO, the initiative was attended by the National Walking Football Head Coach, António Manuel Carapinheira.
The initiative was characterised by inclusion and diversity, bringing together older adults, young people and children from different backgrounds, who had the opportunity to socialise with joy and enthusiasm, promoting equal opportunities through sporting activity carried out together.
Walking Football is a variation of football, played while walking, and aims to encourage participation in sport among people over the age of 50, promoting integration and social interaction in support of a more active lifestyle.
