ApresentaçãoPresentationThe curricular unit involves the application of scientific knowledge to the investigation of crimes. Students must apply the scientific knowledge acquired throughout the course to analyze the evidence found at the crime scene and during an autopsy.

ProgramaProgrammeThe principal forensic laboratory sciences that integrate Forensic Medicine (Toxicology, Genetics and Biology, Criminalistics and Forensic Pathology). Reference to other emerging forensic sciences, such as Entomology, Palynology and others. The medico legal autopsy and the relevance of complementary exams for the conclusions of the autopsy report. The application of genetic analysis and forensic toxicology. Procedures for harvesting, packing and shipping of biological samples and traces of the place. Principles of safeguarding the chain of custody of the samples. Principles of application of spectroscopic and chromatographic techniques in forensic expertise. The expert report, the medico legal advice and expert testimony in the court hearing. Psychiatry and Forensic Psychology: exams and expert reports. The intervention of medico-legal services in scenarios of major disasters.

ObjectivosObjectivesTo publicize the role of Legal Medicine, the relationship of this medical specialty with the other forensic science and the importance of their contribution to the achievement of justice. To familiarize the student with the methods and techniques of forensic and forensic research in the field, at the office of observation, the autopsy room and laboratories. Ensure the highest level of cooperation and the best results in terms of evidence.
