The assets it protects now constitute the main resources of many companies and play a crucial role in the wealth produced by each country. This course aims to raise students’ awareness of the need to protect intellectual creations and of the available mechanisms for their regulation at both national and international levels. As the sole legal framework course regarding corporate life and commercial relations in general, it also seeks to make students aware of the issues related to business, the market, and the practical application of Commercial Law, particularly concerning electronic commerce.

ObjectivosObjectivesThis course unit aims to provide students with the basic concepts and essential notions related to intellectual property and copyright, enabling them to develop their business projects within the legal principles established by international conventions and national law. This includes understanding how to obtain legal protection for their content, licensing mechanisms, and respect for intellectual property. In the area of commercial law, the goal is to offer students an overview of corporate functioning mechanisms, particularly regarding the formation of companies, their corporate purposes, and governance. The course also aims to equip students with the tools to clearly distinguish between Civil Law, Commercial Law, and Consumer Law.

MetodologiaMethodologyLectures, analysis and resolution of simple practical cases, oral presentations and analysis of academic articles, as well as guided study, using new technologies. The availability of materials, information and content will be based on the courses Moodle webpage, which will also be used as enabler for the interaction between lecturer and students. The discussion of topics related to the syllabus will be of prime relevance in the classroom. Regular evaluation will consist of a written test and a written assignment, which combined will be worth 85% of the final grade.
