Nursing Management and Quality

  National and international organizations emphasize the need for nurses to contribute to health policies, improve health outcomes for citizens, and ensure quality and safety in professional practice across various clinical nursing settings. Consequently, undergraduate nursing programs incorporate content on management, quality, and care safety. These programs aim to foster an understanding among graduates of the need for nursing organizations and services to be managed by nurses-in partnership with other healthcare professionals and for nurses to act as guarantors of quality. At the undergraduate level, nurses must be equipped to manage the delivery of general nursing care and to develop these competencies. This course unit covers topics such as health policies and systems, clinical governance and leadership, quality management, patient safety, and clinical risk management.

• ObjectivosObjectives

  Understand key concepts of nursing management and administration in healthcare. Master the concepts of quality, safety, and clinical risk management. Have knowledge of planning, organization, and management in nursing. Recognize the individual's responsibility in planning and managing care. Respect ethics, law, and clinical governance when applying health strategies. Describe quality standards and health outcome indicators. Know the formal quality management systems most common nationally. Recognize the importance of communication and a safety culture. Show decision-making ability, autonomy, initiative, and creativity.

  In this course, we use the Team-based learning (TBL) methodology, doing tasks in small groups, which allows for developing the ability to analyze and apply theoretical concepts.
