    In this ccurricular unit the students acquire knowledge and skills in the osteopathic approach of a special population - the elderly. In this type of population, the osteopathic approach aims to maintain the flexibility of the body structure to improve the quality of life and without pain. By working on the structure of the adult body, osteopathy can aid in muscle relaxation, joint flexibility, blood flow clearance and postural balance. Osteopathic assessment and treatment will be addressed for the most common chronic pathological conditions in this type of special population.

  • ObjectivosObjectives
    To train the student to the proper systemic functioning of the body, the relationship between the viscera, nervous system and structure, at an advanced age. Acquire the knowledge necessary for the initial diagnosis of acute and chronic diseases common geriatric. Transmitting the osteopathic approach to common medical conditions, according to its pathophysiology. Relate the concepts of skull-visceral approach to osteopathic intervention in the elderly. Establish the diagnosis and make the treatment of disorders. Enhance the effectiveness of osteopathic treatment in various disorders. Normalize the body's functions in the elderly. Know select the techniques / strategies that best suit each dysfunction / pathology and for each individual.

  • MetodologiaMethodology
    In this curricular unit, the Team-based learning (TBL) methodology is used, with tasks carried out in small groups, allowing the development of the ability to analyze and apply theoretical concepts. In practical classes, the student has prior access to the activities that will be carried out in each class session, which allows for prior reading and preparation. Class session plans are accompanied by a set of questions, to ensure individual preparation, and later discussion of procedures and results.
