    The Curricular Unit aims at providing the students-future primary school teachers with the theoretical, methodological and practical knowledge necessary for their involvement in curricular design and development processes.

Framework The concept of curriculum and the diversity of its conceptual interpretations; Curriculum theories: from traditional to post-critical approaches; Curriculum as a means of structuring learning processes in formal educational contexts. B. The Curriculum Development Process Contextual factors; Learning contexts; Curriculum decision-making; Curriculum construction: design and implementation; Curriculum evaluation. C. Educational Institutions Governance models: centralisation/decentralisation, participation and autonomy; public/private provision; The school: culture, climate, and school management; Educational projects, municipal participation, and territorial development.
  • ObjectivosObjectives
    At the end of the Curricular Unit, students should be able to: Critically examine the concept of curriculum and curriculum development;  Situate the role of teachers in curriculum design and development processes; Analyse perspectives on the intervention of primary school teachers based on the findings of curriculum research; Identify the key characteristics of the structure, organisation, and functioning of the Portuguese education system.

  • MetodologiaMethodology
    The teaching and learning methods focus on the development of students' research skills, cooperative work, and theoretical-practical reflection, and include: Theoretical lectures (presentation, exploration and synthesis of course content) delivered in dialogue with students; Analysis of documents, followed by discussion and debate. Practical work in small groups will be prioritised, involving students in research and information-gathering activities, followed by the presentation and discussion of findings in whole-class discussion.
